Hi guys!! I have a 37 plymouth 4dr sedan and am considering an S-10 chassis. I've checked previous posts but could'nt find quite the info I need. Can somebody help me with what model S-10 would work best and what chassis mods would be required to make it fit? Maybe someone has been down this road before.I've heard that frame rails can be built inside the existing frame and welded in place before removing the old section of frame mantaining alignment. I guess this might work if the wheelbase is correct. Am I on the right track? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 37 Ply and I'm using the original frame. I assume your original frame is shot? I have a FatMan Mustanh II IFS that I just did this winter. The car tends to sit a little high (+/- 1.5") in the rear with a 70 Camero rear end and leaf springs. The frame is quite strong and doesn't seam to twist under load. What size motor are you thinking of? Have you taken measurements of the original frame? If you map out the mount points for each frame on seperate peices of paper at the same scale, you can overlay the new frame on the old frame and tell in an instant if the replacement will work. Good Luck in your search for a frame.

Too-tall,

I did a S-10 frame swap, I'd be willing to discuss it further. For a 2WD vehicle, I can't say it's the best approach but for a 4WD or even AWD it's a good choice, I think. Here's a few issues off the top of my head..

The S-10 wheelbase isn't the big issue since they came in lots of lengths (100", 118", 124" and a couple more) and they're easy to shorten, too. The real trick is the track width but they're narrow enough that they tend to work well with older vehicles.

The real stinker of the deal is the S-10 frame profile.. Most older vehicles are straight all the way except for a minor kickup above the rear axle. The S-10 dips down in the center about 5", and the kick up in the rear is pretty tall. This is probably what's going to cause you to have to fabricate your own floor pan.

PM me if you want more info..
