302 Z28 The leading paint vendors can match to either single stage or bc/cc alike.

mike69 Although I'm looking for the original shade of paint for the restoration, I'm not that interested in duplicating the errors/poor quality of the factory finish. What I would like to do is get the best quality finish for the engine compartment in terms of shine/durability and then be able to match it with the body color, although I will have the ability to sand/buff the body. If I use a single stage catalyzed urethane, should I use that on the body? If not, then can I get another type of paint to match the urethane in the engine compartment? Which brand is the best to use, and can I get someone to mix the same shade for me in two different paint types in order to get the best match?

Thanks again,
Mike

matt167 AMC's were painted with the same type of paint ( and color ) under the hood as the rest of the car and at the same time as the rest of the car was painted.. this would be for a concourse type restoration... so if you use a BC/CC.. use the same paint under the hood

Paint for engine compartment

Guys,

I'm getting ready to paint the engine compartment on my 69 AMX. I want to use the factory color (bittersweet orange) and wanted to know what the recommendation was on type of paint to use for the engine compartment. I'm looking for a factory type restoration, but since it is the engine compartment I won't be able to color sand or buff it. As for experience, I'm a novice if that matters.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Mike
