Thanks for all the help guys.
It turned out that the wire that was disconnected that went to the thing between the firewalland carb WAS the problem. the wire splits and one end goes the the oil pressure thing and the other on goes to the harness. I tried to start with and without it connected, and it was indeed that wire. It's amazing how a simple little ground wire can cause so much frustration!

well, i got back under the thing and looked for any wires that might go to the neutral starting switch. I found one wire and put it on, but still nothing...
So I don't know. I'm going to hire a mechanic for $40 per hour to come over and help me. It better not take him longer than 2 hours. haha.

I added something to the page with the pictures. The neutral starting switch according to the shop manual has a wire that must be dissconnected in order to test it. Well the switch on my car doesn't have a wire on it.
So I'm guessing that might be the problem i'm having with the starting situation.
Any other MOPAR guys out there who might of been in this situation before?

|4 Jaw Chuck||That thing between the tranny and carb is your oil pressure switch. I think your linkage is misadjusted and although the trans is in park the neutral start switch in the column thinks it is in gear. You could try disconnecting the trans linkage (make sure it's in park position!!!!) and then try starting the car with the shift lever in park and then neutral while moving the shift lever. My guess is your neutral start switch is shot or the linkage is out of adjustment, the switch is in the column behind the steering wheel. You will have to remove the wheel to access it. It ties into the ignition switch which sends power to the solenoid.|

I checked the starter and it works. I looked and didn't see any wires at all that go from the tranny to the rest of the car. I took some pictures of the tranny linkage and engine bay:

|mustang66maniac||The cable that is connected to the throtle is the kickdown cable. When you punch it when your cruising, the throttle will pull on that and cause the tranny to kick down a gear. It is possible that you could have hooked up your linkage wrong. I did that once, so i tried to start it in reverse instead of park. The nuetral safety swith wouldnt let me start it. So check that first. Also, it doesnt even look like a switch. On a ford it looks like sorta a mix between a crescent and a half circle, it has two wires on it that goes to the engine compartment. Hope i could help a little even though i have a ford.|

There is a ballister resister on the fire wall.
Put a jumper wire accross it and see if it starts.
Its a white ceramic block, 1" X 3" with either 2 wires or 4,if they burn up it will turn over but not start / or not do anything. Hope this helps. Please give any feed back when you find the problem.LOL

On my trans all there is is the linkage that is connected the throttle and an actual lever which is what moves when you move the selector on the tree. I don't see anything that resembles a switch at all. could've the tranny been in a different gear than park or neutral when i hooked up the linkage? I know I had an automatic starter switch connected to the starter when I was bolting flex plate to the torque converter and it was turning over just fine...Hmmm...this is really frustrating...
I'll try to take a picture of the linkage tomorrow or the next day and post it here so you guys can see what i'm talking about and everything. Thanks for the info so far.

|dmorris1200||If all you did was R&R the trans (nothing else) the first thing I would check would be the neutral safety switch. Fords are right on the trans shift linkage, not sure on Chrysler. On Fords you can diconnect the harness to the switch and run a jumper across the two wires for the neutral start circuit and try and start it. If it starts you know the switch is bad. Just a guess.|

Car won't turn over! I'm stumped!
I just got done swapping the A-727-B transmission in my '66 Chrysler 300. I changed the filter and pan gasket and all that. everything is connected and the shift linkage seems fine.
But for some reason the car won't turn over when I turn the key now. Not even a "click". Nothing. I charged the battery all night, and tried it this morning, but nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas? I really want to get this car started. I've been working on this tranny swap for over a month. please if you have any suggestions i would really appreciate it.
