I checked the flex plate and it is NOT installed backwards, so it looks like I'll be making some spacers this week at work.

Thanks ericnova72, I'll probably make some custom shims at work, I'd hate to just stack up some washers and have one stack be just a little thicker than another..........
I believe the flexplate is on correctly but I'll check it tomarrow.
I haven't removed it, and the engine was remaned and installed in the truck that I pulled it from, but who knows maybe it was put on backwards when it got remaned?????????
Thanks again for the help

That much gap between the converter and flex plate is too much, you run the risk of pulling the converter too far out of the front pump drive lugs and input splines. 1/8"-3/16" should be considered maximum gap. You will need to shim the converter at the mounting points with washers or custom made shims.
You don't have the flexplate on backwards do you?? Converter mount pads should face back toward the transmission.

200-4R swap question?
Hello eveyone, tonight my wife was having a jewelry party so I figured that it was a good time to swap the th350 trans for the 200r4 trans on our V8 Beetle project.
Here's what I have:
Engine is a 350 from a 77 3/4 ton chevy truck and had a th350 trans on it.
The 200R4 trans is a CZ5 out of a 87 monte with the stock converter.
So the trans bolted right up to the engine no problem and I checked the converter bolt pattern and it was the same as the th350 converter.
I put the two flywheel to converter bolts that I could reach finger tight and then was looking at the flywheel to rotate the 3rd bolt to where I could get to it.
Thats when I noticed that there was about a 3/8"-1/2" gap between the converter and flywheel.
Now I can pull the converter out of the trans and get it bolted up, but I wanted to make sure that there aren't supposed to be any spacers/shims between the flywheel and converter before I do that. There weren't any with the th350 trans, but I don't know about swapping them??????
I'd hate to pull the converter up and have it only partially engaged in the trans and screw something up.
Let me know if your having a hard time understanding what I'm trying to say and I'll get a couple pictures tomorrow when its light outside.
Thanks for the help....
