Kmontgomery Sorry I should have been more specific. It is a Mopar Big block. 400 B.

ericnova72 !Bad and Stinger, read the OP's post, this is a 400 "B" engine = MOPAR, not a SBC.

stinger460 with a 400 get a good steel crank to start, 6" rods and a set of forged pistons to match, a hydraulic cam(w/ 1.5 rocker up to 600" lift no more than 245 deg of duration) with anti pump up lifters roller rockers with a set of heads complete with guide plates and all the trimmings, runners no smaller than 210 int" 75exh" an air gap makes a good mid range intake, use a good double roller timing chain with key ways for degreeing and if usuing a stock oil pan use a standard volume oil pump, dont go high volume with stock pan you can suck it dry.

1bad55 SBC's run very well with small chamber (64cc) and 2.05 intake valves and 1.60 exhaust valves. The porting of the runners is more critical. My 302 SBC powered '55 chevy runs 10.62 at 134 mph with factory double hump iron heads. And that was in the 1970's. Compression (around 13:1) and at least a .600 lift cam will make your power in a small block more than a set of $2000 heads. And remember - Small blocks when correctly built will run best in the 5000 to 8500 rpm range.

ericnova72 Have heard plenty of bad and not much good from the Mopar guys about Indy quality and customer service. New head from Predator is supposed to be excellent, the guy that makes them did all of the original developement work for the Indy group.

Building a 400 b drag engine, need some advise

Im have a 400 b. Id like to get 600hp to start out. I want to choose part that I can grow with. What do you guy's use. I looked at the Brodix b1 BS heads. And the indy ez-1 max wedge heads. I also looked at the Eagle 498 ci stroker kit. Any suggestion's advise ect ect......
