barnym17 The weiand will work just fine for ya for now.It is a good intake I would be willing to bet due to it's runner size you will be hard pressed to feel a dif. down low and just may find some power when on the hammer.

This time I will be there working with the builder...yea not too happy about giving up the dual plain. I guess the goal is to take some measurments (one being the compressed gasket) and he has special measurement tool to measure surface angles etc this time really want to nail down the problem. While I got things apart going to take a look at the rocker studs if they go into the intake ports going to remove and reseal. I guess "if" this not ideal manifold fixed the problem than I can always replace it later on...just want to nail down the problem.

F-BIRD'88 You will give up significant low end grunt right wher you do the most of your driving. Why not address what ever is really causing the intake manifold leak and use the Dual plane manifold.

Installing a plenum divider in the single plane manifold will not restore the lost low end power compared to a dual plane. If the motor is mild you should be using a dual plane with a fully divided plenum anyways.

Fix the intake you got. Or get another dual plane manifold.Not the cast off old junk your machinest has hanging around that he wants to unload on you. Don't assume it's the intake causing the problem. The heads intake mating flange could be out of wack also.

My Professional products crosswind intake manifold fits like a glove and makes big power. (I didn't even need to port match it to my heads) I've used both edelbrock and the PP on the same motor even.
The edelbrock RPM air gap has a more pleasing appearance of the as cast outer surfaces, but the fit and machining is the same.

ericnova72 This particular intake is not that bad for an old single plane, but make sure you use it with the divider as it will help low end a lot. This intake(Wieand Accelerator #7546 w/divider) has been out of production for close to 10 years, so it may not have enough material to cover some of the newer +.100" raised intake ports. Check before you just bolt it on. If it will work, I would use it as a test to rule out head problems and then replace it with a new piece geared toward your build if the problem is solved.

The PP Crosswind, and the Typhoon(dual planes), come up in a lot of problem threads around the web, strangely the PP Hurricane(big single plane) hardly ever. Have used the Hurricane without problems, but know a friend that had driveabilty issues on his street rod using a PP Typhoon dual plane(non air gap like an Performer) and took the polished PP intake off and put the Performer back on and the hot start and sputtering problems went away.

Thanks...that was what I was afraid of. Don't really want to give up anything off idle, since this build was targeting the low end. I am guessing my builder is trying to do me a favor by giving me one of these intakes he has laying around in hope to fix my potential intake leak ith the PP.

By chance will using a plenum divider plate help out some in my application ?

The cam is gonna sign off at somewhere around 5500/5600 anyway, so giving up area under curve from idle to 3500/4000 doesn't seem to me to be the smart way to go. Having a potential issue with my professional products crosswind (clone of edelbrock airgap); it is a a dual plane air gap design. Going to swap it out for a used Weiand which I was told has an open plenum with divider plate...I believe this is a single plane. Looking up the Weiand intakes I beleive it is the X-celerator (also told it has the accesory holes for the A/C bracket); this is the only intake I can find that matches thes specs...also this intake is "free".
