intended use is very important. 500hp in a street car is not as fun as it sounds. 500ftlbs doesn't mean much in a race car though... Look at where you'll spend 80% of your time and design for peak average power in that area.
a street car would be about 2,000-5,000 RPM. A race car would be about 5,000-7,000 RPM. You may be somewhere in between.

i've posted this on here before just recently but bare with me here i go again.
this is the motor i have in my 87 camaro:
350 4bolt main @ .040 over, decked .025, scat 9000 3.75 crank, KB 18cc D dished pistons, eagle SIR 5.7 rods, clevitte bearings, arp main, rod, and head bolts, pistons @ 0 deck, dart platinum stg 2 heads that have been cleaned up gasket matched and shaved to 60cc, solid cam with 282/290-240/250 @ .050 .560" adjusted lift from 1.6 roller rockers, victor intake angle and gasket matched with 1" spacer, 850cfm holley DP. compression is about 10.2:1
computer sim says 522hp/ 500tq
it's in a 3500lbs car, runs of high octane pump gas, newly built and i haven't really got the car completely tuned yet for the track but the last time at the track i was running 11.7-11.8 at around 116mph. i should have some faster times based on MPH, it should go 11.4-11.5 with some more tunning and practice.
not real sure if you are going to be able to get the 500hp mark out of the vortecs, i know it's been done, but you will need the perfect set up. with some port work the vortecs have been known to get around 240-250cfm @ .550" i think it would be a little more realistic to expect around 420-440 from the vortecs. but they do have excelent combustion chambers "fast burn" that are very affective.
what is the intended use for this vehicle, what is the vehicle, what kinda budget are you on, tire size and rear gear ratio would all be helpfull info

|jarrettandroski||those vortec if there 100 percent stock will take need some work to accept a cam with more then 465 lift or so, and if you want 500 hp most of your performance cams are going to have lift higher then that, i think you might have to get those vortecs ported to make that horsepower numbers to but im not to sure, what kind of car is the motor going in and what kind of gears do you got??|

what cambo is best with my 383
hi my name is justin i need help i have a 383 sbc and im trying to get the most hp out of it i can at a cheap cost
i have cast iron vortec heads
950 holly 4 barrel
so far and have no clue from there
does anyone know a good combo to get close to 500 hp or more don't no much about cams and my heads but i do no thats where the power is
