rockcruiser Or Even a plugged radiator will cause the lower hose to flatten

Rickracer Agreed, the collapsed hose will cause overheating bigtime, and if it's sucking the bottom hose shut, chances are it's the correct rotation.

airboat Answered your own question. It's trying to pump water if it's collapsing the lower hose but you need a better lower hose or spring in it to prevent collapsing because a collapsed hose won't allow flow.

Chevrolet4x4s What type of engine is it? You may be running a reverse rotation water pump standard direction, with the impller spinning the wrong direction it wont move much water at all.

i've heard yay's and nay's about the way the wayer pump is spinning on the older style block being a newer style pump...could this be the reason it overhats and collapses the bottom hose
