1st attempt at fiber glass

This is my first attempt at a console. I mocked it up with wood and superglue and then pulled it out and fiberglassed the inside of the wood and cloth with 3 layers of fiberglass. Then put it back in and fiberglassed the edge to try and get the contour of the dash. I didn't reinforce the gauge pod. Next I plan on pulling it out and duraglassing the console. My plan is to cover the console with vinyl. Some questions
1. Can I duraglass the edges at this point?
2. Can I reinforce the back of the pods or do I have to glass the outside?

Any thought from the would be appreciated.

Glass is fun

It's fun what you can do with fleece & resin. I made a molded speaker box this way several years ago. Here is how I did it: I made my speaker rings from 3/4" MDF and made stands from some scraps to hold them in place. I stretched my fleece tight and stapled it to the rings and being sure to pull out all the wrinkles. Pulling the fleece back to the sides of the box and staple back to the sides. Before you pour on the resin make sure that the shape is something you will be happy with. Be liberal with the resin (I used just a standard fiberglass resin and liquid hardener, mix per the directions) You must work quickly on this part as the resin will start to congeal in 10 min depending on the temperature. After you have coated all the cloth and completely saturated. Let dry completely until it is hard. Then take a DA with 80 grit and knock off the fuzz of the fleece. Remove the stands and finish with a good quality plastic filler, then putty finish with 220 grit. Throw on a primer. Then if you are planning on vinyl you're ready to go, just a little spray adhesive and vinyl. Remember how you pulled the wrinkle out of the fleece as you will have to do the same with the vinyl. Leave it out in the sun or under a heat lamp. I'm know I short cut some of this. Let me know if you want some details of any of the steps.

You should'nt have a problem covering it with fiber glass. Definately go the the fiberglass forum because there is a lot of good info on that forum.

Here's what I did with console. Have to decide wether to paint it or cover it in vinyl. Do you guys thing I ought to cover the sides with 1/8" CSF and then vinyl or don't use any foam at all. I plan on putting wood on the bottom where the radio goes and also the top where the vintage air ac control and vent go.
