DanTwoLakes The simple solution to this problem would be to add a piece of border wire at the front corners to square the frame off. This is a very simple fix. In the reverse situation, a round piece of border wire could be attached. Again, that would be a very simple fix also.

1955 Chev Rear Seat Frame Configuration Differences

EJ,
QUESTION, can anyone tell me if you can use a rear seat out of a 4 dr. 55 Chevy in a 2 dr. sedan??

I just ran into this same seat configuration issue.

RESPONSE: The seat base frames are interchangeable, with one significant configuration difference.

The 2d post rear seat base has square corners on the front edge

The 4d post rear seat base has round corners. If you try to install a 2 door seat cover on a 4 door base frame, you will have 3-3 1/2 inches of unsupported cover material, at both front corners.

NOTE: The rear seat, back frames are common between both 2 door and 4 door vehicles.

The expert on this seat cover issue is Mr. Pete Ciadella, owner of Ciadella Interiors, Tempe, Arizona.

DanTwoLakes Very true. The question was about the rear seat and I got diarrhea of the mouth. I meant the front seats were interchangeable between the 2 door 150, 210, and BelAir, and between the 4 door 150, 210 and BelAir. I didn't say it right.

Dan....a 4 dr front seat won't tilt forward.

DanTwoLakes You are correct, but the original question was whether the rear seat from a 1955 2 door car would fit in a 4 door car. The only difference in the seats was how they were upholstered, with the Bel Air having the fanciest upholstery of the three.

rear seats 210 vs. Impala/Belair

I'd have to add a note to this... the Belair version seats were the primere style prior to the Impala in 1958. The armrests in the Impalas were incroaching the rear seat, the Belairs had armrest mounted on the side panel. Please check some photo's.

Yes, it's the same seat. There was a Belair, a 210, and a 150. All of the seat frames would be interchangeable, but may not have the same upholstery on them. They were all sedans, whether 2 door or 4 door, except, obviously, the station wagons, and convertible. All the front seats from all of the models would be interchangeable, but again, may have different looking upholstery on them.
