SSedan64 Thanks John, I'll remember the 87 up.

Johnunit I should also add that the AOD transmissions in these cars typically do have a harsh shift into OD, as there is a rather unique direct-drive system in 3rd and OD. What this means, is that there is no torque converter in play to dampen things when you go from 3rd to OD.

Johnunit Hey, I hope this isn't breaking the rules here, but I'm part of a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis owner's club, specializing in the "box" body cars (79-91). If you go to, there are guys who spend most of their time working on cars like yours. They'll be able to help you out.

You do not have the problematic type of TV cable arrangement, those were 87 and up. However, the TV cable you have is still VERY sensitive to adjustment. Also, if you have a general lack of power, this will throw things out of whack because you are giving it more throttle than it should need, resulting in harsh shifts. On a carb'd car, improper idle adjustment (or adjustment without also adjusting the TV cable) will mess with shifting as well.

SSedan64 Most of the CrownVic's had a problem where the Trans TV/ThrottleValve cable connects to Carb or Throttle Body. There's a plastic piece that cracks/breaks & binds / throws the TV adjustment off or lets the TV cable come completely loose. Easy to check. Do a search I think another tread had the part # Info to fix it.
Could be other problems also ^^^^^.

slimcheese Change your fluid and filter and see if that works. May have trash in it. Also check motor mounts and trans mount. May also have torque converter issues? Does it slip at all in any gears?
