1972 Chevy Pickup guage problems

First it was the fuel gauge.....I understand that this a very common problem on early Chevy pickups. The gauge reads past full all the time. I have read about grounding the wire at the tank.....didn't work. Haven't pulled the cluster yet to check wiring but now the oil pressure gauge doesn't work either.
What really has me puzzled is that it is a mechanical gauge with a copper tube running to a fitting in the back of the gauge. I disconnected this tube at the engine and plugged in an old pressure gauge that I keep and started the engine......55 lbs of pressure. Pulled the line at the gauge and ran some air through it. A bit of oil came out and enough air to prove that the line wasn't clogged. Hooked everything back up....still no oil pressure.

Is there an electrical interface of some kind that reads pressure and then moves the needle? If not, this has to be a huge coincidence. I just want to make sure the my in-op fuel gauge is not related to the oil pressure gauge problem.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.
