|Torque454||I think the valve you are referring to is the check valve. It can be in a number of places, but it is usually screwed into the tank, and the air inlet tube from the compressor pump screws onto it.|

I think you have probably diagnosed the problem correctly, the backflow valve in the tank where the supply line from the pump attaches is probably stuck or even missing. REMOVE the drain valve on the bottom of the tank don't just open it!!! If there is even a small amount of pressure left in the tank when you remove that line it could be very dangerous, REMOVE the drain valve-it's easy.
Remove the line from the pump where it attaches to the tank then remove and check the valve (if it's even there!), if it is leaking or missing you will need to replace it.

air compressor problem
I recently purchased an air compressor from a " return " company hoping to save a few bucks verses buying a brand new one . The problem is that it will pump up to about 50 p.s.i. and then the electric motor saftey switch will cut out due to the motor not being able to turn the pump. I noticed that the compressor pump becomes somewhat hard to turn as though it is building up alot of compression or back pressure . I am thinking that there is some sort of valve that should prevent this and it is not working properly . The compressor is 240v 120 p.s.i. and , yes , it is wired to an 240v oulet ( I got juiced pretty bad from it ) . Any help would be great ...not too sure how everything works on it ( valves , ect. ) to work properly . Thanks ,Tim.
