DanTwoLakes Yes, the paint will chip off the springs, because the springs are made to flex. Painting springs is a waste of time and money. Instead of doing all that, just wire brush (or use a wire wheel on a drill) over the whole thing and apply one of the many rust treatments like POR 15 or Extend ( made by LocTite and comes in spray cans) to neutralize the rust.

Interior Project - Backseat Frames/Springs

Finishing up interior project on a 64 Impala, getting reading to re-upholster the seats. I have some surface rust on the backseat frames and springs, my plan is to have the frames/springs sand blasted then either painted or powder coated. Question: Will the paint or powder coating chip off easily on the springs themselves once in use? Thanks in advance...
