|slimcheese||Thanks a bunch guys. We found some axles and a auburn posi from a 90's impala ss. Gonna use that. We ditched the thumper cam idea and he's gonna get something different. He is looking at an isky cam. By the way it is an 8.5 10 bolt. I welded the tubes solid to the center housing to strengthin it up. Also welded 4 small braces to each corner of center housing to tubes. Thanks again guys.|

|DoubleVision||Dunno how I missed that too, but I could swear the post originally said S-10.|

|ericnova72||Hippie, you are correct on the rear, my bad - I thought I read S-10 when it was C-10.|

|ap72||Summit sells their version of the 274h06 cam which works very well in this type of build, need good headers though.|

'87 C-10 should be an 8.5" 10 bolt. Have never seen one with the 7.5 but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
My oldest used a Summit 1105 in his the 350 in his demo derby car (don't get me started on THAT ) it had a real healthy sounding idle and the engine seemed to be very responsive. It would idle in gear with a stock converter and throttle response was right now. For a street build I'd want some stall in the converter and I don't know how it would be with power brakes. He ususally just throws it into Neutral and pops it into the gear of choice when it's time to go. It was pieced together from left overs, the shortblock was a std. bore 350 with flat tops and it had 76cc '487 heads on it with a Performer and a 500 Holley 2 bbl. If I ever do a flat tappet 350 again that I want to sound "racey" I may give it a try.

It might sound bad, but that's a check written that the engine can't cash, if you follow me. In other words, all bark w/very little bite.
For less $$$ you can buy a decent Summit cam like the single pattern 1104, the 1105 mentioned above by Cunferferth or even the 1106 (also single pattern) and make more power and have as good if not better all around driveability.
The heads you're getting really don't need the amount of pattern split that the Thumpr has, or even the 1105 for that matter. But the 1105 is at least ground on a 114º LSA (as are the other Summit cams listed, I believe) which, while doing nothing for that fake "racy" idle, WILL help the idle vacuum, etc.

Engine combination will be fine, 750 vacuum carb is fine just might need some tuning parts thrown at it.
Sure there are better cams than the Thumpr line but it isn't terrible, just marketing hype, it is the latest thing Comp Cams is Pushing is all.
Mini or any kind of spool is a bad idea on the street, especially in that fragile 7.5" rear axle. This rear axle was birthed in the Vega, you know

|Cunferferth||and you might be a little over carbed with a 750 on a mild small block|

|Cunferferth||spool= dangerous on street...I second to ditch the thumpr cam, id look at the summit 1105, powerband of 2200 to 5700, matches your converter and should have a nice little lope to it and make a good power throughout|

|DoubleVision||Get rid of the thumper cam, it`s pretty much just a "sound" cam. There are many better cam choices avalible that`ll give you the same lopey idle and plenty of power. If this is to be a street truck don`t run a mini spool on the street, it`ll just break the rear and it`s not safe on wet surfaces. A used to be friend of mine tried to do so twice both times resulted broken gears and it also broke the carrier in half. If the truck came with a 7.5 rear I can give you the codes from the F body line from 82-87 that had posi traction rears from the factory.|

Building my brother up a little peppy 350 for his 87 c-10. Stock 1983 350 with 882 heads. Installing summit aluminum 62cc heads with a thumper cam good for 1800-5600 (close I think, lol) edelbrock air gap intake with a holley 750 vac. sec. We installed a 2800 stall and 3.90 gears and a mini spool. Combo sound good for a good little street truck?
