347 Stroker

Hi I am new to the forum and have a question about what crank shaft to run in my 302/347 stroker Ford engine.
The motor currently has a bent snout on the hardened cast Eagle crank in it. Has sat for 7 years now, and am looking for a new crank. The Eagle crank bent from the 174 holly blower on it. I was informed that I need a forged crank and have been looking for some good options. Currently I am interested in a Hawks Racing 4340 forged crank from the Mustang Depot. Has anyone used one of there cranks in this application before and was it good if you have?
Also the 347 stroker kit in the motor is currently Eagle and am curious if the Hawks Racing crank is interchangeable.

Thanks for any help.
here is a link to the Hawks Racing crank info.

Hawkes is chinese sourced, can't tell you how good it is though. If your current 347 stroker engine uses 5.4" rods then the Hawkes should drop right in. the whole rotating assembly will likely need to be rebalanced however.

Any Mustang/5.0L specific forums would be your best bet for finding info on these cranks.

Its been so long since I have been into the bottom end I am unsure on the rod type, the only thing I remember is that the rod bearings were the same as a chevy v6 engine. Thanks for the info on the crank. Not to sure if Chinese super metal such as that will hold up to well in my engine, it is supposed to produce over 500hp and put 150 shot of nos on it... 700hp... it would probably end up all over the drag strip.

I have heard from a good source that a "K-1" 347 crank is one of the best out there but it is not cheap.

Have you looked into Callies Compstar, or Scat forged??

I was not aware that Eagle was made that way.

I have talked to a few engine re builders here about what steps to take to rebuild the bottom end of my engine, both said to get the scat crank, but as for bearings and rings one said reuse my old one and the other said to get new ones. The reason for this is that the engine prolly does not even have 100 miles on it, by the time I got it running properly I bent the snout of the crank. When this happened I pulled the engine out and put it on a stand in a friends heated shop. Maybe I can get away without bearings and rings, that would save around 400 dollars. Both however did say to get the engine rebalanced, which i think is a good idea.

I have moved entire rotating assemblies from a cracked block to a good block, bearings and all, with no problems. If bearings are good, bearings are good, they don't care what block they are in, or what crank is in them. They weren't assigned to a certain crank when they were made LOL.

Rings would be fine also going back into the same block. I've never used one set of rings in two different blocks but have heard it will work fine if the rings are real low mileage, sounds like what you have fits the bill and I wouldn't be scared to do it in your case.
