DanTwoLakes The top pieces screw in and out to adjust the angle of the seat back. If they aren't there, you could lean back and eventually damage the seat back frame.

gratefuldad Didn't see those clips when I tore down the originals. Strange. Will resesrch to see if they are missing. Thanks for the advice.

DanTwoLakes Look at the pictures of these seats, and you'll see what I mean. They need to be put back on the seats if they're not on there. 1962 1964 Impala Front Bucket Seats Very Good Condition | eBay

gratefuldad I didn't bother putting them in, but may decide to later. Don't know if it will make a huge difference, but presumably the bumpers are there to cut down on the wear of the bottom and top portions of the seat rubbing. If down to the bare frame you can see the screw holes on the back, top ridge, of the bottom seat frame. If seat covers are on, you can probably probe through the carpeting back there to find the holes. If memory serves correctly, about 1 inch in on either side of the back frame (the lip or ridge that runs along the top).

DanTwoLakes The bumpers should go on the seat bottom on each bucket seat. There should be something on the seat back that lines up with the bumpers. You might have to open the back of the seat cover on the seat bottom to see where they attach.

1964 Impala SS - Bucket Seats Back Rubber Bumpers

I'm restoring my 64 Impala bucket seats, I ordered a new set of "seat back bumpers" (total of 4 rubber bumpers and screws, 2 per seat). The original bumpers were missing! Can someone tell me where these bumpers are specifically mounted (seat frame, back rest frame, etc.) Pics would help! Thanks in advance!
