ekacpuc That's silly and exactly why a 350 isn't going back in it... There's a guy with a 76 in town that has a 489 in it and it does fine.. I drove a one with a 454 in it, it wasn't slammed and didn't have a shift kit but it was a hoot. The 350 is long gone it's in some guy's car.

American Muscle That 454bb will be a world of differnece compared to the 350. More tq than you can handle even in stock form. Whats wrong with the 350?

sqzbox Clamshell's are the brackets that bolt to the side of the block.

ekacpuc I don't know what you mean about the motor mount stuff.. So since mine is before 79 than motor mounts are the same? What are clamshells? Are those the mounts in LMC truck?

I planned on a new HD radiator was interested in the be cool aluminium ones actually. Didn't think about extending wires but figured the altenator would need attention. I only have headers for a 454 (came out of a K5) so exhaust I planned on doing from scratch. Gonna make em pop out just before back tires on each side.

Bryan59EC By 79, there was a difference in the small block & big block mounts.
I know they bolt different to the frame. Clamshells will work just fine.

This is not to say that the small block mounts wont work----everything mounts the same.

You will need
454 flywheel or flexplate
Exhaust will need some work
The 4-row radiator will be a damn good idea, and this will require a HD cooling system optioned upper radiator retainer (Tall radiator---up to the top of the core support----standard sits about 3" below the top of the support).
Upper and lower hoses, all of the front of engine accy mounts.
If you have an electrical oil gage (I doubt it for 77) you will need to extend
the wire to reach the 454 sender.
Might have to do the same for the temp wire (I did not)
Alternator wires will need to be extended a few inches.

I did this in the early 90s----best thing I ever did.
Bought that truck new with a 305, then went 350, 4spd, then moved up to the 454. I still have that truck, but actually quit driving it about 5 yrs ago

poncho62 A big block Chevy has the same mounts as the small block....should bolt right in.....the bellhousing is the same pattern too......As long as you have an oil pan for a truck frame, there will be no clearance problems. The car ones may clear too..........You will need big block headers for a truck frame

350 to 454 in 77 C10

I have a 1977 C10 stepside that use to have a 350 in it and I'm putting a 454 in. I had a few questions though. My dad did a 351w to 300 6cyl swap and he had to change motor mounts and the towers that the mounts went to in his bronco. Will I get away with just buying the motor mounts from lmc truck or will I need more than that? I wanted to use a high volume oil pan i believe that it was a 8 qt will I have issues clearing suspension or anything? What about the oil filter, is there anything to hit there? Is there anything else that I might be missing? I'm buying a built TH350 so that will be the same just the engine is changing. I shouldn't have any problem clearing the headers right? They're full length hooker competition headers. Seems like it had a lot of room on each side with a 350.
