Not sure about this, but I seem to recall that there's a difference between the '37-'41 and '42-'48 brakes. I know the spindles are different. The '37-'41 spindles are "round back" and the '42-'48 are "square back", so maybe the backing plates are different too?

new drums dont fit old spindles???
I'm building an old skool 23 t-bucket (Late 50's early 60's style) and just got some new '37-'48 ford 2" drums for the front. I got the 2" cause I eventually want to get some Buick finned drums. I went to mock everything up and realized that the backing plates don't fit on my early ford spindles. The top flat part of the backing plate where the circular bolt pattern is at hits the top of my spindle where the top of the kingpin is at. This causes them to not marry up flush with each other... I noticed in the catalog that if you are installing F-100 front drums on early ford spindles you need a special kit with new bearings and seals and a spacer, but these are not F-100's these are the 12"x2" passenger car '37-'48 car brakes. Can someone please offer some advice or a solution if this has happened to them????? Thanks
