--if any of you have read my profile you will see that im from tennessee, however for the next while i will be residing in northern california. away from the 435 sbc stroker that i was building a year ago . this leaves me in a predicament-have the motor-sent out here so i can finish building it or build another one. right now it looks like im just going to build another one but this time not stroke it{406ci}-so heres my question-anyone from northern cali that knows where i can start off on my quest to finding a nice 400 sbc block- prefferably close to sacramento. who out here do i trust to do my machining?
ive tried that but i cant seem to find many people that are into engine building. and also the military did a good job of sticking me in a low population area so finding good machine work is kinda a big worry for me. i trust one shop back home but thats a long ways away. if you cant tell im very criticall on who does my machine work. im about 2 hours away from sacramento but i dont want to drive all that way just to do some shopping.
soryy about that---i just read over my post and realized that i didnt explain my situation in the best of detail. so im going to try again. im located at beale AFB california and the only hottrod folks i can find seem to know only how and where to locate import motors. not that imports are bad its just not what im looking for. the only usable blocks ive been able to locat have been 350's and as many of you know, locating a good 400sbc is pretty tuff. so my first question should have been-does anyone on this forum have a 400 block that is located near me? and if not do you know where one is that is in nice condition. 2 bolt or 4 it doesnt really matter. either way i will be upgradding to splayed bolt caps. and my second question should have been does anyone know of a shop located near me that does top quality work.
sorry for the mix up-but i didnt want to put this in the engine forum cuss i didnt beleive it to be a tech question.
thanx a bunch in advance for your replies
