|Gotta-love-Ford||I had to do the same thing. I ended up pulling the steering wheel off and sliding the outer shaft off. I then undid the box from the frame and just slid it out. I originally did it this way so i could access the turn single switch and replace it and also replace the shifting color because it was cracked. Turned out the whole box needed to be rebuilt and all the wiring was cut by the previous owner. NOT FUN|

All one piece
After MUCH diligent searching on Google, yes, the steering box comes out with the column. The shaft is one piece and goes all the way from the steering wheel through the box (steering shaft has worm for worm gear).
You CAN disassemble the box, but this year truck has a gaping hole in the floorboard to allow complete extraction of unit as one.

1964 F100 Steering Column Removal
I have a shift column. The motor and tranny are removed.
I'm trying to remove the column and steering wheel so I can repair the rusty floor board. From the diagrams I've seen, it looks like the steering shaft goes all the way through the steering box, effectively making the column and steering box one whole unit. To remove the column, the steering box has to come with it?
The monster sized steering column hole in the firewall supports this assumption...
