Hello

I have been struggling to identify this engine, at first I thought it would be simple but a few bits of the info have thrown me off.

3970010 Block Casting
K1107CMJ Engine Code
16B472500 Partial VIN (Chevy made in Baltimoore 1976? but is that the car not the engine?)
K2 Date Code? (its in the right place but seems too short)
3932441 on both cylinder heads

I could not find any reference as to whether it is a 305 or 350, but I think the heads are 350 only.

In the UK its the date of the block thats important for emission regulations, so specifiacally I am trying to date the block. I think it may be a 74......

I havent even started on 2 or 4 bolt as I guess that will be a sump off job

Help

Thanks

3970010 casting 3 is 4.000" bore block, used from 1968-1979, used to make 327 and 350 engines depending on year, used in both 2 and 4-bolt configurations.

K1107CMJ- K is St Catherine, Ontario, Canada engine plant, CMJ code is 1974 350 Police package, TH400 trans, 4 barrel. Possibly will be 4-bolt. Police package doesn't necessarily mean it was in a police car, any Caprice/Impala could be ordered with this 4-barrel engine, it was just the top engine package.

Heads 3932441- 76cc chamber, 1.94" intake valve, common smogger heads nothing special, would be the stock head for the above engine.

Thanks for getting back to me, I did see only one year listed under the CMJ code for a 350, is that why the date code only has K2 on it because it was only made in one year.

The spec is irrelevent for my needs as it will get stripped stroked new heads, but in the UK we have to be able to prove the age of the block for the emissions, Pre july 1975 is visual smoke test only. So it needs to be 74 or earlier.

Thanks again

Pulled it all down this afternoon, 3.5" stroke, 2 bolt Mains, but even after a good clean still no date casting

Despite it standing for a while the bores have a little rust, still 4.00", with a very small step in the top so should rebore to +30 fine.

According to all the info on the web a 350 with a CMJ suffix is either a 75 or 74 block. Its also a shame that the partial vin 16B4 seems to put the vehicle it was in at 76. :(

I might ask some of the recommended IVA approved identifiers how they would now date it.

Thanks for all you help and suggestions.

Joe
