the other day in Park Slope, Brooklyn. They do all furniture work. I noticed two things. First off, they used very thin plywood for patterns. But secondly, and what really impressed me, was how slow and precise they were in cutting leather. I noticed that the upholsterer was using a straight edge razor and really taking his time. It probably took him five minutes to cut 12 inches.

Fabric is fabric, no matter if it's leather, vinyl, Ultraleather or cloth. I cut them all with the same scissors. The only thing that would slow you down working with leather is deciding how to lay out the pieces to get the best yield from the hide. Once that's done, it shouldn't take any longer to cut out leather than anything else. You can only be so precise, after that point you're just wasting time.
