poncho62 When I built my 55, I used a truck bell housing that had the mounting for the starter.......I used a block mounted starter....If I remember correctly (this was 35 years ago), I had to cut away part of the bell housing....but it worked

The starter is an original style which bolts to the the bell housing and we found out yesterday that it won't work, as the starter teeth are about an inch away from the flywheel. So rather than go through the trouble of changing the flywheel, I'd like to know which other starter I could use...for example when going to a parts store for which model and year starter should I ask for. The 283 does have the threaded bolt holes in the block. I tried one starter that I had laying around but no luck. Would appreciate some helpful info. -----Classic Chevy Dave
Starter Info >> http://www.chevytech.com/2c42o6.html

Go to >> http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php & look up a 70 Corvette then click on the highlighted Part#, it will show other cars that use this Starter.
