I saw on another site that someone had a novel idea and was wondering if anyone here has tried it and your results.
Instead of a solid front mount, a shackle is installed to compensate for spring bind like a floater would. Any thoughts or ideas on this? Thanks

the engineer in me says that your system as drawn will bind as the springs load and unload. typically the front of the spring is pinned and the back of the spring has a shackle to make up for the length changes of the spring as it loads and unloads. with your 3rd link going to the back it will actually cause rotation and binding. if you change the link to go forward and lengthen it a bit it will triangulate the punkin with the pinned end of your spring and possibly eliminate your rotation.

ok, I can't get the thumbnail to work. but if you click on it and enlarge it when it pops up you can see it.
There is really no way it could pull the body down in the rear, it would be doing the exact oppposite. the body (frame actually) and rear end would be pushing themselves away from each other. in essence pushing the rear tires down into the pavement.

I guess I was thinking something like this:
would let the rear rotate rearward on accel, but the 3rd bar from the frame (behind the rearend) to the pumpkin would basically push the rear end down as it was trying to rotate back into the 3rd bar.
I'm thinking of this from a circle tracker's perspective. I've raced circle track (dirt) for a few years before and I know like in a modified or late model upon acceleration the rearend will rotate rearwards, and is limited by the upper link/torque link, whatever you want to call it.
thanks for the replies. its just an idea that popped in my head and I thought I'd see what you all thought about it.

I can't see this working. You want the upper link above the pumpkin to extend forward, not rearward. What you have proposed will likely pull down on the rear of the body, which means in essence it is lifting the tire away from the ground(same as "squat" in drag racing, which is an undesirable condition).

Floaters don't do anything to let the axle rotate at all, but they will allow the axle to slide back until the spring pack's center pin hits the end of the slot or a cross roller in the floater, depending on the type of floater used, if no bar is hooked up. Clearance in the floater might allow a few degrees of rotation with a ladder bar unhooked, but not much.
I'm talking about drag race floaters, not some of the various things called floaters be the circle track racers.
When you put the rear axle on floaters something has to do the axle locating, either ladder bars or a 4-bar/4-link, since the forward half of the leaf is no longer locating the axle.

|dusty13||I'm at work right now so I just had to use paint program, but here is a very rough sketch of my idea. if you put floaters on the springs so it would allow the rear end to rotate backwards under acceleration, and then weld a 3rd link bar right on top of the pumpkin going backwards to the frame. as the rear end rotates backward, wouldn't the 3rd link force the rear end downward rather than letting it roll? just an idea I was playing with. let me know if you think it would work.|

leaf spring axle floaters
does anyone have experience with leaf spring axle housing floaters like you would use with ladder bars? I'm just curious, without ladder bars hooked up, how much will the floaters let the axle housing rotate rearward? I've got an idea, but I'm not sure if it will work or not.
