Hey all

Friend has a 4.3 "Volvo" Marine Engine that turns out to be a CHEVY!!!! So she let it freeze last year and is getting what I think are ridiculous prices on fixing it. If I use her accessories and get a marine cam any reason I cant just rebuild a 4.3 short block for her ? Other than the exhaust manifolds and water pump and other bolt ons I cant see a lot of difference...

Thanks for your advice... Mike B

Unless it's an old engine, it'll have a roller cam- you can reuse it and everything else that's in or on that engine, on another block or short block.

The marine heads should be reused if they weren't hurt in the freeze- sometimes they have heavy duty exhaust seats. I would also check to see what the ring gap recommendations are for a marine engine just in case that differs from automotive use engines.
