I agree, this is a very cool motor. Lots of folks are put off by the highly integrated electronics necessary to get the engine to run right. The I6 was made from 2002 to 2009 and they are starting to hit wrecking yards now.

Thanks for the link, I have read all of it and this swap seems doable now.
I have removed the engine/trans and all the other parts I need from the Envoy (I hope) and am getting my Nova ready for the new engine. I still have a lot of work to do just to get the Nova ready though. The car has firewall, and floor issues I am dealing with, then onto mounting the Mustang II clip. Hopefully within the next week or two I can start mocking up the engine for mounts.
I cannot believe there is nearly no aftermarket parts for this engine, there is one guy building oil pans specifically for this swap but thats it.

Thanks for the tips, I will be tearing apart the donor truck this week, its in the shop ready to be salvaged (I'm sure it will be fun) Mine is a '03 and I understand it has the servo running the throttle, could be wrong.
I have read some people are running a carbed set-up but one of the biggest reasons I wanted to do a new I6 was the fuel injection and I would finally like to learn a bit about the computer controlled engines, I am completely in the dark so far.

One thing I love about my '65 is its simplicity. The ability to look under the hood and instantly get to just about anything that needs attention.
Im replacing my 194 I-6 with a 327. If you want the 194 come and get it.. I love '67 Novas, ill donate it to your cause..

I believe he is talking about the largest of the atlas series of vortec engines. The inline 4 5 and 6cyl engines.
That ls conversion kit is intended for the ls version v-8 vortec engines

|bigdog7373||Get that kit that edelbrock makes for ls series engines. It replaces the stock intake manifold with a carbureted setup and it comes with an msd control box for the ignition system. I have been quite interested in that motor myself. The few tidbits i know about them is this. There is a cut off i believe it is 2004 where they went to an electric servo instead of a throttle cable so if yours is after o4 make sure you salvage the pedal assembly and that harness as well. Most the swappers are using the 02-03 vortecs to avoid this Other than that its just like any modern efi swap. salvage all the harnesses and brains and never cut any wire no mater how mundane it seems untill the project is finished.
Their is a fella in seattle that had one in a 51 chevy coupe with a stick shift from a chevy colorado 5 cyl and it flat ripped for an inline six. great pic on a powerplant

1967 Nova Vortec I6 swap
For quite some time now I have been struggling with what mill I would like to power my Nova project.
I have thrown around the idea of running a period correct inline 6 (have not givin' up on that yet) and of course a SBC as I am their biggest fan and have a few around the shop but I have just recently come across '03 Envoy that was rolled. I can get the truck really cheap and have a complete running Vortec 4200 with computer and related parts. As well I could possibly use the tranny, would probably use my Muncie 4 speed thats been sitting waiting for this project if possible.
I am really into this for a few reasons, decent power at 275hp, reliable, fairly efficient and as GM keeps using these engines more and more high performance parts will come out. I have a evil little street machine already, and would like a better grocery getter.
The problem with this is I really have no clue when it comes to the new computer controlled engines. I am more than willing to learn. Any suggestions on books, write-ups on here, or tech info from one of those more knowledged in this area than myself.
What will I need to salvage from the Envoy, once I have the parts and peices is the process mostly plug and play? Any problems I will run into. Any info would be appreciated.
