RWENUTS Hey Thunder!
We call this a thread from the dead. The OP hasn't been here for over 2 years so your advice (while good) will fall on deaf ears.
Check the date in the upper left corner.

Thunderjet It sounds more like the carb is running out of gas than flooding. check the fuel pressure and then look at the float level. The engine will run until the carburator runs out of gas and then the pump will fill it back up and it will run again. Likely float

kc8oye This is why it's worth the $$$ for the electric choke kit

fuel-junky Thanks for all the input I got it running and feel pretty stupid I had to throw the choke open right after the motor catches. Well I feel like a dummy but at least my wife will be happy the truck is running again. Thank you

T-bucket23 Once it fires you need to push the choke in a little or you will flood it instantly. This sounds like your issue, after 10 minutes or so it will dry out and start again.
Try this, pull the choke only half way and pump it 3 or 4 times and start it. See if it continues to run.

fuel-junky Do you think my carb might be dumping too much gas? I haven't changed
Jets or really any of the mixture screws cause I haven't got it to stay running
Long enough

DoubleVision Okay since you have a gauge what`s the fuel pressure?
12-15-2010 01:15 PM
I pull the choke it will run great for a few seconds then die
Ayuh,... I agree, it sounds like yer Floodin' it...

When it starts, push the choke in some... like 1/2 choke, or 1/4 choke...

fuel-junky it won't start without the choke and it does have a new pressure gage and fuel filter and fuel pump I can smell the gas but just doesn't act like its keeping fire

DoubleVision Did you also install a fuel pressure gauge?
Are you certain you even need the choke to start it?
Are you sure the butterflies aren`t icing over? If they are it`ll flood so severely you have to wait a while before it evaporates.
When trying to restart a flooded engine, do not use the choke and put the gas pedal to the floor.

sbc 350 will start run rough for a few seconds die and wont start

I have a 87 chevy half ton truck that had a tbi 4.3 and I put a 85 350 4 barrel in it
I put a block off plate on the motor for the mechanical fuel pump and put a fuel
Regulator on it put a edelbrock proformer eps intake on it and a manual choke
600 cfm edelbrock carb all brand new wires plugs cap and rotor but when I start it
I pull the choke it will run great for a few seconds then die and won't restart until I
Wait about 10 minutes I have fought with it and am now seeking help
Any ideas?
