Thanks.. I don't have any Rods right now.. :smash: But will have one in the making soon.. :mwink: There is a few guy's here that like to use the old ford solenoid.. I don't really care to go that way.. But it does work well.. There is a few threads about it here.. Some of the guy's that go that route, Will check in soon and let you know about it.. Good luck..

You can use a on off switch and run one wire to the - side of the coil, then to the switch, the other side of the switch is grounded. When the switch is switched to "on", the coil is grounded and will not received 12V power. Should work the same for your application.

on my ride, the MSD 6AL box get's its 'on' signal from a small 12v wire.. (it's main power is unswitched straight from the battery).. it works like an audio amp..
this wire is just a basic push connector pushed into the ign powe tap in the fuse box...

If I have to park my car anywhere that concerns me, I pull the wire out of the fuse box, and just tuck it under the carpet.. this way there is no switch to find.. and until you figure out how to get power to the MSD box, you will kill the battery long before you get it started :)

Be aware of this.
The term "kill switch" is sometimes used to describe a circuit that is used to stop a magneto ignition system as found on engines that don't have battery powered ignition. When the "kill switch" is in the ON position it connects the magneto to ground and KILLS the ignition.
The switch you are proposing is more accurately called a security switch.
This switch cannot be allowed to connect the ignition system to ground but must interrupt the circuit that powers or controls the ignition system.

A neat kill switch idea that I have used is grounding the negative wire from the coil, the "tach" wire that is already going in your passenger compartment. Now, the cool way to ground it....shhhhh.......I can't tell anyone else...........simply unplug your cigarette lighter and plug your wire from the coil into it. When you leave your car you push in the cigarette lighter and it grounds that wire. It never pops because it isn't being heated. When you come back simply pull the lighter up and start your car. :)

that lighter idea is cool.. except I don't have a cigar lighter any more ;)

something the MSD instructions mention.. the 6AL has two inputs.. a magnetic input for using a O.E type magnetic trigger in the distributor, and another input for triggering the MSD box by points or an MSD distributor (like i do) they mention that if you ground the input you aren't using, it will stop the box from triggering at all making a great security feature.

The 'Coil Kill Switch' is a featured already built into our Kwik Wire Wiring Harnesses.

The positive wire is hooked to a switch in all of their harnesses and then controlled by the switch mounted right on the fuse panel. It works great, and it allows you to still listen to the radio and such when you're at a car show!
