my SB 34 cabriolet build continues. Does everyone use welting between the fiberglass body parts and the frame?

Apologies, pages 15-16 had the original metal from the factory. Page 21 had the redesigned and improved Metalwork.

The metal frame work was sorely lacking from the factory. See my link below from page 14 of my build
We wound up replacing all of those pieces with newer thicker pieces metal stock.

SB 34 cabriolet striker post
mocking up the striker post, finding it a little short, it doesn't reach the 3/4 inch tube clamped up in the windshield chanel in the body. i have tube to weld in an extension. anyone else see this? am i on the right path?
any help is cool. also thinking of welding angle plate for more post support. the post foot doesn't seem that robust.

My shop made many parts for Ford, Dana, and a company, which my old brain can't think of the name, they made Corvette tail lights for one, but we made some machine parts for them. That was just av few of the auto or truck or airplane parts we made.

|jruppert||I dad literally pulled the engine from the Lincoln and dropped it in the frame. His intent at the time was to see how it all fit in. This engine will come out and get rebuilt and of course new paint as well. As for the fasteners.. Yes, even my dad wanted to switch to grade 8. He was an engineer at a plant that made ball studs and fasteners for Ford, GM, TRW, and Dana. If you look under your car or truck (domestic) and find a flange headed bolt with an F with a circle on it.. chances are that he made it. He worked there for 30+ years and I worked there for 7. We made the bolts that hold the driveshaft to axle on RWD Fords, the flywheel bolts, bolt studs for Taurus wheels. These just a few that I remember. I know we made a lot of ball studs for Ford.|

Welcome to the forum. Nothing aganst you or your dad, but that engine is a mess. you need to clean it up, get the wires shortened and the rest looking good, that is if you use that engine. The Mustang II will work with that engine if it is set back, but I would go with the 4.6 out of a G.T. Mustang. You would have plenty of H.P. with that motor in that light body.
If you find bolt on motor mounts, I would use grade 8 bolts, and not the 5's that are in there. I know first had Street Beast never gave out grade 8 bolts.
Weather you use bolt on or welded you can put the new engine in the same place, the mounts would be a little longer. Me with the longer mounts, I would weld them in.
You said you could not weld, if you have a J.C. school in your townmost give welding classes at night. I live in a small town in north central MN. and we have classes about 2 times each winter.

I havent driven this year. He didnt drive it last year either. He needed at bone marrow transplant and spent last year recovering. I dont know much about what it needs. He asked me last year to look up prices on a new carb. I need to get it up on blocks.
He drove it to car shows a lot. They say, you cant take it with you when you go and it is so true. Everything of his is sitting in his garage. Its a double edged sword.

I knew a guy that raced small stock cars with those 4 cylinders and they were getting well over 200 hp out of them.
The trans is most likely a C4.
Do you drive that much ?? Looks like it would attract a crowd everywhere it was parked.

DAMN that Mercedes is cute !! Looks like another tube chassis with R&P and MII suspension. What's it got for drivetrain ?
Having the coil-overs on all 4 corners should make for a nice ride on the Cobra.

It has a power steering rack. I believe its a Mustang ii part number but I could be wrong. It is front disc and rear disc brake with a coil over setup.
I will need to measure between the rails. I havent spent a whole lot of time looking over this project. My dad worked on it himself. I know he had 31 spline axles for the rear and has a 31 spline carrier for it as well. There is no driveshaft at this point. He has whatever C series transmission that came with the 69 Lincoln.

If those stands won't work with another engine, it should be easy enough to come up with some that will and adapt them to the frame. Bolt on makes this much easier than welded...
It may be tricky to find the right stands until you remove the 460 and measure between the frame rails and know how wide they need to be for the 4.6.

Nice start to a street rod...power, front steer rack and pinion and tubular control arms. I'm assuming it has disc front brakes too..
