Re:Good Tool Chest and Cabinet for $300?

I've read good reviews about Toolbox Ware House's Tool chests and cabinets.
I found the Tool Cabinet within your range. I attach the image of the toolbox which is in your budget.

**********

It is of $159.
It is Complete Set of TB-220X, Top Toolbox and Bottom Tool chest and Wheels for mobility, convenience. Its durable.

adamsautoadvice Keith, that seems like a good ToolBox. I got a Harbor Freight 13-Drawer as I thought that was the best option in the price range. It's been a pretty good box.

Thank You for posting the other box. I am sure other people will be interested.

snorulz you can also get good deals on scratch and dent boxes at sears, that is how I got all of mine. Usually save 30% or more and it still works just fine.

Looking for a Used Box!

I've been keeping my eyes open for a good used box, but I haven't seen anything. It's hard to find a used Toolbox that isn't too beatup.

amp71e I would say best bet is look for a used box. Get a hold of old retired mechanics and watch classified ads, id be willilng to sell my old one for around 300 but cant afford to replace it with what i want just yet!

the key word was "trade-in"

most of them will take your name and number
i hope you didnt misunderstand,
many times the snap-on truck will have cheap-o craftsman boxes that get traded in by young or just getting started mechanics, just moving up
the last shop i worked in, had every brand, tool trucks coming around
and between the five of them, one of them had a cheap-o box, most every week.
i've bought a couple of cheap top boxes for in the race trailer etc. off of tool trucks over the years.

I think this is what I'm probably going to do. Just watch for a good deal on a Craftsman unit that's on clearance.

Thanks for all the advice latech and everyone. I doubt I'm going to go with a used Snap-On, Matco, Mac, etc. Like I said before, most people ask too much for their used boxes. Just check Craigslist and see how many times the same boxes and chests get reposted.

Look around on craigslist. There should be stuff close enough to you that you can drive to to see it.
Pawn shops may have some stuff also. But they are going to try to get as much as possible. Most of them (most not all) arent going to want to deal much. They mark the price up 4-5 times what they paid for it, so you should be able to offer them half of their asking price and then maybe go up a little. If they dont want to deal , tell them "when I walk... my money goes with me,unless you want to deal" Dont let em schmooze you with BS. They used to sell used cars before they opened a pawn shop.

LATECH Look here
E Bay item number 120668923650. Pretty good deal. Not a roller but a good deal.Just a little far to drive though. It pays to look around and not be in a hurry.
Also consider unless you are really pressed for space and have lots of tools to store the stacked boxes dont give you area for a worktop.

I bought a new (dented) lower box, roller drawer at sears for 169 bucks. It was a 279 dollar bottom. It was new, so was the dent.It was dented on the corner and I straightened it. You dont even notice it now that it has a few other scratches in it.
I didnt care for the cobalt brand. The boxes looked ok but the wrenches are cheap and wont take much heavy use like a snap on will.
I would look for a scratch or dent bargain. They are new but the store cant do much with them as people usually wont buy them, they want a Perfect one. I still feel good about my scratch and dent box for 100 dollars off the msrp.If it were a new chinese made POS i dont think I could say that. Stopping by the snap on truck isnt a bad Idea, watching the paper and surfing e bay works too.
My preference would be to buy a lower box big enough to put a worktop on for bench space.( Which I Have) Work on top, tools below.I also made my own shelf for over the top so I have a rack for books and the Ghetto blaster . I put a flourescent light up under to brighten things up , that leaves the whole top open for repair orders, small parts, lunch etc.
