I was wondering when someone was going to ask that question.
First, there are no hard tape lines. Itís hard to see; but, if you look closely the paper is rolled back creating a soft edge thatís easier to feather edge. Prior to papering I use a red scratch pad to scuff the area around where Iím going to primer. Using this technique keeps my work areas to a minimum so I donít have to base larger areas than needed thus saving material or at least stretching the materials I use. Yeah, Iím cheap with paint, but neat.
After removing the paper I blocked the primered areas with 320, then went to 800, then finished scuffing all areas to be painted with a gray scuffpad. His is my normal procedure. Nothing fancy, just straightforward.
Additionally, this is a tricky color. If I tried to blend that color with the color primer you see I would have been presenting pictures of a poor color blend than those pictured. No matter how much paint I used the gray primer would have presented a darker contrast through the basecoat. Therefore, white sealer as recommended was used; although, not pictured. Base purchased was only an eight of a pint.

Valid question. What I see and other techs pickup on the visual differences isnít what the average person can pick up. I can see it, but the customer doesnít. We as techs can beat ourselves up over nothing in everything we do and the customer hasnít a clue to why weíre so disappointed with our own work.
Additionally, as I mentioned previously that body is fiberglass with none of the manufacturing flaws corrected. Moreover, whoever painted the car previously didnít feather their work properly so you can see their flaws further making the differences unnoticeable.
With all that I guess he can live with it comfortly.

|Underground||Looks great, but what about the difference in looks between the cleared fender and single staged door? You can tell when a car (or part of a car) has been cleared. Did he just live with it or was he one of those customers that don't notice these things?|

BC/CC over SS Urethane.
It has been asked if itís possible to repaint bc/cc over ss urethane without any adverse effects. The answer is yes. You can also repair and blend when needed. I did just that recently on 71 Fiat for a customer.
As mentioned above this car was painted previously with ss urethane. Nobody wanted to do it for him without repainting the whole car because they couldnít match the color. Nobody knows the paint code that had been used. He came referred to me because a previous customer went through the same thing and I was the only one that around that would do it. I like to eat.
I called my jobber and had him come down to the shop with his camera thingy and do his thing. After he did his thing back at the store and came up with a code I had him return to my shop with alternate chips to the GM code he gave me so I could do my thing. Verify the color match.
Hereís how the car was delivered to me:
All he wanted was some fiberglass cracks fixed and few other defects corrected. Yes it is a fiberglass body.
