This thread needs to be in the Electrical forum. I'll move it.

A couple of suggestions for you, based on my own experience getting my mid 90's Eldorado bucket seats to work:
-Study the passenger seat wiring closely, to see how it is wired, as it doesn't connect to a memory module/switch. If it works properly as-is, see what added wiring is in the driver's side seat, that can be removed/bypassed to allow it to operate.
-Use your VOM, set to continuity checking, to verify which of the loose wires on the driver's side seat are actually common, & just need to be connected together. (Effectively bypassing an external memory switch....)

power seat, schematic
Sly, I read your advise about the power seat schematic, if you could e-mail me one also, greatly be appreciated, thanks, Dana

|Sly's 53 Suburban||OK, I had a chance to check the schematics. From what I can figure, it's best to eliminate the memory seat module. The seat switch comes in two configurations. One is a three (3) position switch and one is a four (4) position switch. The 3 position switch does not have a position for the recline. The 4 position includes horizontal position, vertical forward, vertical rear as well as the recline position. The orange lead is for power with a 30 amp breaker. The black is your ground. The power seat on the passenger side does not use a memory seat module. My plan is to find a wiring harness from the passenger side to replace the driver side harness, thus eliminating the seat module. One could probably just splice the seat module out of the circuit and work fine. I'll do this if the seat harness is a problem to find. You should be able to obtain the wiring schematic at your local General Motors Dealership, to help with the splicing and bypassing the seat module. August, if you PM or email me, I'll email you a copy of the schematic. Sorry I couldn't be more detailed. Hope this helps. Anyone attempting this modification should do their home work to make sure nothing is damaged specific to your setup.|

|Sly's 53 Suburban||In the 2004 Tahoe they are in the seat. Not sure but, probably in the seat in the Trailblazer as well. Sorry, I'm out of town until Friday and won't be much help until I return. I will research and post with findings.|

Thanks for the reply's. I will check that website. Also on the actuators, are you talking about the "black box" under the seats? or are they located somewhere else? If its the "black box" these seats came with them.

|Sly's 53 Suburban||This probably won't fix your problem with my reply, but I looked at a schematic for the 2004 Tahoe seats for my 53 Suburban. They go through the computer to an actuator module and then through the door switches. You may have to locate the actuator modules at a wrecking yard and incorporate them into the seat job. I know it won't be easy but it will be done. The airbag being deployed should not cause this. When you get a wrecked Trailblazer with side airbags deployed you can still work the power seat. I will post as soon as I get the fix. Good Luck!|

|73oldsman||I'm not familiar with this seat, but I am wondering if the airbag is deployed, did it incapacitate the seat electrically in some way? In this world of safety features that is a possibility. I hate to offer ideas without some sort of a solution but you may check out this site http://www.automotivehelper.com/cat124/ for your answer, if someone can't help you here. Good luck!|

Power Seat.. HELP!!!
I hope somebody can help. I'm replacing the seats in my 87 EL Camino with some power seats from a 2002 Trailblazer. When I hook up the main power leads nothing happens, i.e. none of the motors work. There are some smaller wires but I think they are for the memory switches. I was not planning on using them but could they be causing this problem. Also, the side airbag has been deployed, thats how the seats were shipped to me, woudl that be causing this problem? Any light that anybody can shed on this problem would be a BIG help. Thanks in advance!
