I did this a little over a year ago. I figured I could amuse some of you hot-rodder guys who are on break. I always look at the site, but never can find any ways to contribute, so for your amusement.... Your looking at the rear wheel housing drivers side on a 1965 Pontiac GTO.

And some more pictures for ya!

It may not be proper but it gets the job done. The surface looks rougher than it actually is in the pictures. In reality its very, very close to its original shape. All made with flat sheet metal, tin snips, hammers and a small mig welder.

Thats not in THAT bad a shape.looks like you got the welding down too.I just finished a 69 camero and the whole rear window was rotted out, inside too just be sure to fit your all your trim pieces before you weld so you get a good fit when your done.just use some masking tape to hold the moldings on. Once the cars all painted and your putting the trim on is a bad time to find out they dont fit any more...been there... :(

Very true about the trim. Some of the hardest parts are trying to re-create a specific shape. Even the areas you can't see, for an instance behind the rear wheel right under the lip was a nice cozy little nook for dirt, rocks and water to sit. I went ahead and created a spoon like shape so it had somewhere to run to.

The replacement panels are a close fit, however not perfect. They are better than what I can create though! Lots of measuring side to side, up down and around to make both sides equal. My worst nightmare is to have a lower quarter panel sticking out farther than the other side.

At least now I get a chance to re-do all the design flaws of that day. Also with much head scratching, the drip rails are coming off. It will be modified to still function as a water run-off, but will be smooth as a babies bottom. When I'm done with her it will surely be custom... but the same car. I had to hold back from wanting to tub the back wheels and redesign the frame. I have enough to do before its road worthy.

Half the body mounts didn't even exist anymore, or broke off upon removal.

Just remember how old that car is, its all normal for its age, heck over here the steel outriggers or the frame is usually rotted too...that car is nice ...I was talking to a guy in Fla last week about restoring his 65 GTO...I've done a lot of restos but never a 65 gto. If he brings it up I might have a few questions for you...

Personally if the car was any more rotted out, I never would have done this. Its beyond me to virtually create a whole car from scratch... at least for now. I give props to those able to do so. Even more if they can do it within a reasonable time frame.

Lucky for this girl she hid a lot of damage from me before I started, so she got away with it... funny how that works out.

Edit: Now thinking about it, I may have refused to acknowledge it. :x
