dinger Ventless heaters are illegal in Ca., probably because of the diverse cultural makeup. They're good for buildings that are not air tight and will vent through drafts. Problems arise when there are 2 stories involved, the heated air will go up while the cold air pushes down. Sensors in the heater will not detect low oxygen until it may be too late. For a garage, you should be ok. In a home, a detector should be placed in the highest habitable area.

matt167 have 1 in my living room.. they don't put out much CO. it's pretty much equivalent to a stove burner. but still have CO monitors. but it has low oxygen shutoff

bentwings Good point Joe. In the garage the big door quickly get moisture on it to the point of running on the floor. The same on my trailer except I have power vents so it is not as bad.

I have this same heater. We used it to heat the 22 x 24 garage. It takes a while to get everything warmed up when it is in the 0 or colder but it works great. The CO can get a little high before it cuts off. I'm very sensitive to this and I can feel the effect in rosey cheeks and head ache way before the heater kicks off. I have a fan on mine and it works quite well too.

I use it to warm my trailer too. It doesn't take long to get nice and toasty in the winter and there is good ventilation in the trailer so CO doesn't seem to be a problem. I also have a CO detector in the trailer.

That's obviously good advice, but expect the detector to go off if you've got an engine running, even with the door open. These heaters give off very little CO, and all new ones include an oxygen depletion sensor that turns off propane flow if the O2 level drops. The bigger problem is that the primary byproduct of these heaters is water vapor. That's not necessarily a bad thing in the winter when the air is very dry, but expect high humidity in an closed space.

DanielC It may also give off CO, Carbon monoxide. Have a working CO detector in the same space as the heater.

joe_padavano These heaters work great. I use them in several buildings on the farm. The problem is that you had better turn it off before using any flammable liquids or aerosols.

BOBCRMAN@aol.com My parents use a similar unit to heat their home in northern Michigan. Two story Chalet type house. Works great. No heat goes up a chimney. This is a "catalyst" type heater. Combustion air is introduced thru a honeycomb.

I wouldn't be spraying any paint in the area.

Ventless Propane Heater

Hey guys,

I want to finally put some heat in the garage (Ventless Propane Heater~30K BTU Vent Free LP Wall Heat).

I want to use propane because I already have the 100 lb tank. I'm looking at the heater below. I want to know if anyone has one like this and how does it heat?

I have a 24 X 24 garage and it says that it will heat 1,000 square feet, which should be fine if that's true. Would this work well? Will the space heat up quickly. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated
