hduff It's a poor ground somewhere, a dirty dimmer or corroded bulb sockets or a loose wire.

No fun to troubleshoot.

cobalt327 My '95 GC does the same thing, it's normal for them.

If that's ALL the complaints you have regarding the electrical system/dash display consider yourself darned lucky- those Jeeps have the most problems of any vehicle I have ever heard of- including ones w/Lucas electronics!

75gmck25 Having the dash lights dim with the headlights on is normal on most new cars. However, on my last Dodge you could turn the dimmer all the way up (or down?) and there was a click just after full range where it would set them to stay bright at all times, even when the headlights were on. It was documented in the owner's manual.

HaHaHa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forgot about that one matt. You go to turn on the lights and accidentally turn the knob when pulling it out and light's went out/dim.

eloc431962 Sounds like it could be a voltage problem JMO Have you check that yet ?
Although i have seen some newer rides that the dash light will dim when the headlights are on as a safety thing i guess but i can't remember the year vehicle it was.

accessory lights dim when head lights turned on

hi, I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I never noticed it before, but now in the day time its real obvious. But when I turn on my headlights, all the accessory lights such as the overhead compass and the iinfo console, go dim. Its so dim that in daylight you can't see them at all.

I had this happen on a chevy astro van I had before, never did know what caused it. Any suggestions. The lights that go dim are all led's I believe. Doesn't seem to affect the lights on my aftermarket radio.

Jeff
