78SilverShark Actually, I was looking to get one for real cheap and spend a lot of time cleaning it up/rebuilding it/modifying it.

78SilverShark Thanks for the input, guys. I'll look into that book by Doug Roe. After I read up on that, then I'll get a beat up Q-Jet and restore and rebuild and modify it.

Thanks again, guys!

Hey, is the book you are talking about "Rochester Carburetors"
by Doug Roe? Is this the one? I think I'm going to buy it.

jimfulco Around here, the average life of a Qjet in a junkyard is measured in milliseconds. You'd think they'd be all over the place, considering how many they made. But the only ones I ever see are so f'd up nobody would want them. However, if you know somebody that works there....

DoubleVision I don`t recommend you get a carb from Carbs Unlimited, who specializes in Q-jets, I already did buisness with them. when I got it, it looked new, had new throttle shaft bushings installed, so I had bright hopes for it, I installed it, it ran great, I was happy, until I shut it off. the well plugs, which had been sealed with epoxy, leaked down faster than I ever seen any leak down, even while running I noticed they leaked down, I took the carb back off, took off the base plate, stripped the epoxy off, restaked the well plugs, added new sealant, let it cure under a heat lamp for 36 hours, reassembled, installed it, same problem, I called carbs unlimited and they told me it wasn`t possible that they leaked as the carb was tested before it left on a dyno. since I had resealed them, they refused to warrenty it. however there are other places to get Q-jets, Jet, makes performance Q-jets, they have stage 1, 2 and 3, they cost a bit more, but worth it. they have the basic replacement up to full race Q-jets. Edelbrock also makes Q-jets. Q-jets are great carbs, and there simple to rebuild, here`s a site I learned alot about them and these simple mods prove to be effective.
there`s other things to lean of Q-jets, like the hanger numbers, metering rod codes and etc, Doug Roe has a book on Q-jets which is real helpful on building them as well as performace mods. good luck silver.

Where can I find this carb? (QJet)

Okay, I have a '78 Corvette. And the stock carb is a QJet. But if you don't know about this, it's a 4 barrel carb that can compete with CFI and EFI. So, I was wondering...

Where could I go to find a "beat up" QJet carb? Something I can rebuild, polish, and get some pride out of it? I've honestly never had to go looking for a new carb. Where can I get one of these? BTW, this carb is what pre-'82 Vettes used (the Sharks - Stingrays). Maybe I can go searching out a C3 Vette in a junkyard that might have one of these carbs on it? There must be a better way.

Any ideas/suggestions?
