chil53 I guess what I am planning on doing is getting the 235 ready and put it in before working on the 248. I guess my best bet is to go to a junk yard and look for and try to find a canister to mount on the motor. I have checked out the the bracket for the spin on filter. If I were to rebuild the motor I would go with this type of filter system. I just don't want to mess the 235 up with an oil issue.
04-02-2011 08:41 PM For the 235. There are kits that convert the oil filter to a full flow unit. involves drilling and tapping a hole and pluging an existing passage. ...The old GM design does not filter too much of the total oil pumped.

235 motor

I have a 1960 235 motor I am planning on some day to put into my 1953 gmc truck. It had no oil canister when I got it. It has a fitting in one hole and by the sending unit it has a bolt in that hole. I've read where some say to connect the two together and others say to get a canister and put a filter on it. The motor in the truck now is a 1953 248. The guy I got the truck off of said it had a crank bearing go bad and he replaced it but you can still hear it knock a little. Could use any help. Thanks
