Hey mav79, I haven't touched base with my brother-in-law yet. Turns out that he had night-shift this week. I will try to catch him tomorrow afternoon.

BBB... Thanks for the link. I told myself this summer that I was going to spend a little bit more time this year connecting with other gearheads. I've only made it to this board so far because of all of the good folks here! I'll thread lightly over there until I do some homework on the board. Very cool...

|BigBlockBabe||The guys on the forum over at http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/ might have some information. I know there's alot of Jeep guys on there. Do a search first and be careful, they're a lil hard on newbies.|

I think the putting a 350 in a Jeep is a great idea. My brother-in law did this and Whoa! What A Difference!
I will ask him tonight about his opinion and I'll let you know what he said if I can't get him to join the forums and reply himself.

|mav79||Exactly right... I got the idea for a SB because I picked up a set of Hooker fender-well tubes for a SB Jeep in a swap. Hate to say that my whole decision would be based on that, but it definitely started me thinking about how cool it would be. Thanks!|

|gt2betubbed||I don't have any knowledge about CJ's, but I've seen a couple with 350's in them, and oh do they look nice. Especially with a set of fenderwell headers . Another reason to go with a SBC would be the accessibility of cheap after market parts, but then I don't know how easy it is to get parts for a CJ V6...|

79 CJ 5: SBC or Stock Build Up?
Greetings to all... I am pretty new to your board, and I really appreciate all of the opinions and advice that I have seen on a lot of things. I hope my .02 helps from time to time. I am competent, ASE certified, but enjoy doing MY stuff as much as possible and definitely don't know it all. If I don't know it, I'll be the first to ask and the last to BS you. I'll do a SBC now and then and even try to do get on the dirt track from time to time. You 1/4 guys and gals have really cool metal... They are always so CLEAN!
I have searched the past posts but not found any opinions on my issue:
I have a 79 Jeep CJ5, 258 with 3 spd. I have had it forever, and it is time to put some work and bucks back into it to get it the way I always wanted it. The 6 cyl is really tired, so I started swapping for stuff thinking that I would put a SBC (I was thinking 283, bullet proof, high rev, had a few in the past...) in and have a cool custom. I started researching this swap, and there is a lot of good advice on how to and what to.
Cold feet set in. I am now considering building up the AMC motor. I am not looking for huge HP gains, as the CJ 5 weighs less than a roller skate, but I would like a little better throttle response and low to mid gains. Clifford and others makes some performance stuff for the 6's that would also make this a unique custom.
I guess I'd like to hear your opinions on pros and cons either way. I'm not real sure I want to do engine to trans adapter plates, but I don't know about transmission swaps/bolt ups to SBC. I would also consider a 350, and have plenty of hard parts to get started on one. This will be a complete project, and while I'm not loaded, I will take the time and spend the cash to get it the way that I want. It will be a regular driver, probably do a little mud during hunting/fishing season, and drive town when the wife wants to let the wind through her hair.
I would appreciate your thoughts and opinions. If you have had any experience with a SB swap into a Jeep, I would like to hear about any 2 beer or greater problems that you encountered, and what turned out the way you thought. Mostly, I'd just like to know what you think...
