Other than the cosmetic differences in the emblems, look at the draw keys on the from suspension king pins. One of them has only one draw key per wheel and the other has two per wheel.

bobolink24 The first half of '55, (series1) the pu looked like the '54. The second half of '55 (series 2) they looked like the '56, so they were two completely different body styles. The diff between the '55 series 2 and a '56 was the hood ornament. The 'wings' extending out to both sides, came out at the bottom level of the ornament. Whereas, the '55 ornament had 'wings' that extended out from the top edge of the ornament. Also, the fender badges were located lower on the fender, I believe. Hope this helps.

unstable Willys,

I think the dual headlights are different...I could be wrong--I think the dual headlights are a different model. Apache's maybe?

pretty sure the apache's are the dual headlights.

The front fenders on 1955-57 Chevrolets are interchangeable, however, a slight difference does exist. Due to a different grill in 1957, it was necessary for GM to stamp an approx. 2" square dimple in the inner fender edge. This dimple can be filled if placed on the 1955-56 Chevrolet.
the fender's wouldn't really be interchangeable if they changed the number of headlights per fender in 59.

then again you may be right...I just missed that (55-57...not 55-59)

here's a bunch of pictures for 55-59:

1955 2nd Series - In mid-year 1955, Chevrolet introduced this new body style truck. It was completely redesigned from previous years and very few parts will interchange with the older models. Grill design has 3 horizontal bars & 4 up-rights. Single headlights in front fenders. Fender side emblem is one piece and mounted below horizontal line on fender. Emblem on front of hood is longer at top than bottom. Small step between cab and rear fender. First year for the Cameo, a very rare and desirable fiberglass bed pickup. First year for the op-tional V-8 265 cubic inch engine. Serial #'s; H2 1/2ton, M2 1/2ton longbed, J2 3/4ton, L2 1ton, etc.

1956 - Very similar to 1955 truck. Fender emblems are two piece and mounted above horizontal line on fender. Emblem on front of hood is longer on bottom than top. Front hood emblem has a cast in V if a V-8 truck. Serial #'s; 3A 1/2ton, 3B 1/2ton longbed, 3E 3/4ton, 3G 1ton, etc.

1957 - Similar to previous years but with the following changes. Fender emblems are now one piece mounted above horizontal line on fender. Front hood emblem is same as 1956 but paint scheme is reversed. Hood has two raised humps on top running front to back. Grill now has inner and outer oval ring separated by 8 "teeth", 4 on top and 4 on bottom. First year for the optional V-8 283 cubic inch engine. Serial numbering system is same as 1956.

1958 - Dual headlights in front fenders. Grill is now a one piece design with parklights mounted in ends of grill. Last year for the Cameo pickup. First year for the optional fleetside bed. Fender emblems have series designation (31, 32, 36, 38 etc.) and Chevrolet in center of emblem with Apache on top rear of em-blem. Front hood emblem is 31" long with vertical design in background behind bowtie. Serial numbering system is same as 1956.

1959 - Very similar to the 1958 trucks. Fender emblems are now larger design with Chevrolet and Apache in center of emblem with series designation (31, 32, 36, 38 etc.) at rear of emblem. Front hood emblem is 36" long with square pattern design in background behind bowtie. Serial numbering system is same as 1956
that settles it.
06-08-2004 09:53 AM Kinda like the '47-'53 Advance Design models. A few details different but virtually the same. Didn't the "Tri-5" go to dual headlights in ~'58?

unstable I'll say 55-59's are the same (the tri-fives), except for the 57's which have a different grill and the area on the fenders that mount to the grill is probably just a little different. Although I have seen 57's that had 55,56 grills installed.

All of the factory assembly manuals cover all of those years, so they have to be damn near identical bro.
