|Dave57210||Oh yes - good ol' British engineering. At one point I owned (briefly) a '57 MGA, which blew its engine, at idle, sitting in the driveway. May have been a million reasons from previous abuse B4 I got it, but still......|

My buddy had an MGB GT....
He blew up the 4-cylinder, so we put a Buick V-6 in it
Went like stink until the torque ripped the transmission mount out of the floor

Bubba is correct This concept car was built on speculation by the Budd Company. Budd built body parts for the auto industry including the whole body for the 55-57 T-Birds. Utilizing tooling from the 57 T-Bird they built the XT-Bird concept It had some styling changes as well as being stretched enough to fit four passengers. Ford had te 58 four pas T-Bird on the table and passed on Budd's XT-Bird.
Budd thought about it and rebuilt the XT-Bird into the XR-400 and pitched it to AMC. AMC passed also. so it never happened. Two things make this endever interesting. First on is that a outside company tried to sell their concept to two large Auto Co.s and secondly had either company bought into the design they would have in all purposes had the first "Pony Car" years before the Mustang.
