From what I remember, the 15&1/2 is a newer Rack. The 16" is the older rack for the Mustang II.
Someone does offer the offset bushings to make either one fit. Google "offset mounting bushings" or try this number...UNI 8021520. Those are what are in my notes but I don't remember which shop the info came from. SORRY !
Just keep looking. You'll find the parts.

I think fox body racks are very similar but spacing is a little different. It seems like I have seen bushings with holes off set so to be able to swap out various ratio racks the racers use

T-Bird racks had a different center-to-center dimension from the MII racks...

Ford used a couple different racks back then. One was a Ford built unit and the other was a TRW unit. They had different power steering fitting sizes and may have different mount spacing as well.
You probably need to identify which unit was on the car first. Also identifying who's Mustang II IFS unit is on the car might help too. There are a lot of bozo's making Mustang II IFS systems and all are not created equally.

39 ford rack
Recently purchaced a new flaming river rack at local swap meet with the plan of replacing the power rack in my 39 ford coupe.
After removing existing rack have found that the fittings are different, but more importantly the fastening points are 15&1/2 centre to centre as opposed to 16 inches on the existing ford rack.talked to local supplier and all their info showed 15&1/2 as well.
The existing unit has Ford on it as well as several numbers.
I believe car was built 20-30 years ago.
Can anyone advise what this rack is out of so i may find replacement? thanks and regards,Silver 442
