If there is anything in the pan that will plug the filter, the trans is junk. I don't for the life of me, understand where you people think this stuff that "cloggs" the filter comes from. If changing the fluid would make the trans work, it will also cause additional damage to hard parts that are not included in a rebuild kit by allowing you to use it while it is destroying itself..

Nice attack... You're too cool! I'll admit that I may not know everything there is to know about transmissions, but I have rebuilt a few in my day and none crapped out on me. Just because I don't own a transmission shop doesn't mean I don't know anything about transmissions. If my comments are not appreciated.. I will not post here...

|slingslingbinks||i built a 4l60 that went less than 25 miles, i rolled the small lip seal on fwd. clutch piston, even after air checking it 10 time' s. it was in a 4x4 chevy sub. it took out every clutch pack. verry costly come back good luck c-ya sling|

|BstMech||Over there in England I bet the shops look at an American car kinda' how we do an English car. Going by that, I would say it's not going to be cheap by far. I do know that over here if you pulled the tranny and looked around, you should be able to find someone to patch it for less than a couple hundred bucks total parts and all. If you did it all your self, you could do it for less than fourty bucks total. I'll say about twice that in your neck of the woods. To just drive the car to the shop and say "fix it", would cost about 800-1200 dollars or more here.|

|BstMech||What probably was the thing that killed it was when you limped to your friends. How many quarts low was the tranny when you first noticed it was low? The symptoms you describe (good reverse but no forward gears and the fluid smells with small dusty particles), suggests the forward clutches are gone.|

350 Trans slipping please help :(
I had my tranny rebuilt and fitted it myself. on the first real journey out (about 50 miles round trip) we had apipe come off from the trans to the oil cooler resulting in loss of fluid. I got the pipe back on and limped the car to friends (about 2 to 3 miles) and replenished the fluid (with a circlip this time <blush>) and drove home a little low on fluid(?) I thought. since then we went to a show and things were fine. until the other day when visiting other friends, fine up until we cam to go, and then the car slips in drive with a judder if it is revved. Reverse id fine but 1st 2nd and 3rd all slip. I checked the fuid which now seemed high. so drained a quart out which took it about 1/2" below the hashing on the stick, but it still slips
the fluid I removed smells slightly and there were some small dusty particles in the bottom of the tray.
Have I ruined my trans? I am supposed to be the wedding car at a friends wedding in 2 weeks.
