There are members on this and other forums who absolutely do not want you to do a clip swap or frame swap, for whatever reason. I contend that if you have the proper place to do the swap(s), the proper tools to finish the job and the expertise to cut, measure and weld, and do simple math based on using plumb bobs, then you can do a frame or clip swap that will turn out nice. One thing that will throw your swap into a tail spin is the lack of having a flat and level floor or jig to work from. You cannot do this on the garage floor at your home (my garage floor sloped 2 3/4" from one corner to the opposite corner).

put a camero front suspsion on it. It all unbolts from the car. I will monut right up under your from. Only need a 1/4 spacer on each side , the bolt it all on very simple. Also use the steering box mount it on the out die of the frame & you are on the way. You the stil use all factory parts No welding or hacking the frame.

corvette cross member discussion
But will I have spread apart the A-frame rails for the C4 cross member to fit between the frame rails? Because the track width on the truck is 57" and the C4 track width is 59.6" I think. You right I would rather be able to save some money for other things if I could. Also do you know it there is any "how-to"install articles of a corvette C-4 cross member into a AD A-frame.

As to the geometry, that is the beauty of the C4 suspension, the whole factory crossmember is utilized so there is no alteration of the factory geometry. Ackerman isn't enough of an issue to alter steering arms that can compromise other issues. A few hours of cleanup on the factory crossmember removing motor mounts, external mounting flanges, etc and you are good to go. You will have to build upper shock mounts though. But that isn't difficult.
If you have the cash, buy the kit. If you have the time but not the cash (or want to spend it on something more beneficial like really good tires) use the factory crossmember.

You know now that is a great idea, I have an classic truck mag article on his kits and I had forgotten that. Thanks for bringing that to my attention for I have been meaning to check with them to see how their cross member cost.

|Tony@AirRideTech||keep in mind welding that a factory C4 crossmember to your frame is about like welding a tin can to an anvil. The C4 stuff is good stuff dont get me wrong but I would look at getting with Bob over at Progressive and talk to him about one of his crossmember to convert it over using your C4 stuff. Then you dont have to re-engineer anything and the rack, proper ackerman, track width is already figured out for you.|

corvette sub discussing
I think the vette subs look good and I heard they have a great handling and ride as well, and your right I just need to be patient and get a good set. As a matter of fact I talk to a guy from the craigs list and he has about 4 vette's that he's parting out. He told me if I would come and remove it myself he would sell me the front sub for 250.00. But he wanted 600.00 for the rear sub. I've been looking around for a while now and it seems the going rate for these subs seems to be any where between 250.00 to 650.00 a piece for suspensions from C4 vettes 1984 to1987.

As to typical parts replacement for a C4 Corvette, I just put a front and rear in my Jeep, and for the front end all I had to replace was the front calipers ($79.00ea w/pads) and outer tie rod ends (about $25.00ea) the rest was in good shape. Mine even came with KYB shocks and slotted rotors. Shop around and don't buy junk just cause it might be a few dollars cheaper up front.
I'm tellin' ya, for a front end that works, updated technology and great resale value for your truck (if that is a consideration) Corvette stuff beats subframe grafts every time.

suspension for my 1950 chevy pu A-frame
Didn't know that either, so hopefully I can find some other type of suspensions that might work or I may have to buy a few parts at a time from one of these after market companies that sell front and rear IFS and IRS, for that's what I want to do. So looks like I'm going to have to wait a while before finishing the chassis and suspension.
