DanTwoLakes Your point is well taken, but sometimes people are looking to bring the interior back to original.

AutoGear I don't often post in the interiors section; I have to say though, Dan does an incredible job.

When we priced out the cost of having my fathers 55 chevy bench seats recovered front and rear from scratch, and new door panels; the cost wasn't that much higher than having the foam trucked in, plus the pre made seat covers.

Dan Cedrone at The Secret Service here in Syracuse, had some preformed covers in house, and the foam. He pointed out the neglected seams, cheap foam and very loose fit. He reasoned that if we brought the foam and covers to him, he'd have to cut and restitch at least 1 cover as well to get it to fight properly. We purchased a headliner and installed it ourselves from one of the big 55 chevy catalogs; what we recieved was essentially a big sheet of seat vinyl. It was very difficult to install (not our first headliner either) and completely lacked the stretch of the proper material. Dan practically begged us to let him redo it properly later. The difference was night and day

Being that the only thing we didnt do on the car was the shortblock or the interior, it made sense to pay for the handmade covers. 11yrs later and the tuck n roll pleats still line up, theres not a loose corner, the french seams look perfect and we get lots of compliments.
For a basic bench, save the aggravation and find someone who is a craftsman to give you the quality your car deserves. After all, its one of the only parts of the car, you the driver, gets to see.

DanTwoLakes Well, the good news is that padding or re-padding the rear seats of a 1st gen Camaro with new foam is relatively simple and not very expensive. The seat bottom and seat back are basic bench seats with not many frills, they are very straightforward. That's why there is no foam available for them.

Look at this thread: CLICK HERE This is a '53 Chevy rear seat, but the process is still the same in your '68 Camaro.

3ponyshow Thanks for the reply.
Yea, I've seen several places where I can buy a frame, but no one manufactures the foam and it has to be custom made from what I've learned so far. I have a saved search on Ebay, but after you remove those that are pickup only, there's little to choose from, and sight-unseen, spending ultimately a grand on a rear seat is painful. It is what it is, but I wanted to see if there were any other options available first. Apparently not, so I'll just keep my eyes open. One will come along eventually, right?

DanTwoLakes There is nothing that's not available for 1st gen Camaros. You won't like the price, however: CLICK HERE Try E-Bay, there's a couple on there right now.

BTW, the only other thing that would work would be a Firebird seat from those years, and it could not be a convertible if you have a hard top.

1st gen Camaro Rear seats

A search has produced lots of results on front/bucket seat topics, but not much on rear seats for these cars. My 68 Camaro needs a rear seat and they've proven to be very difficult to find; Even aftermarkets like Classic industries or year 1 don't sell these.

My question is: Are there any other camaros that the rear seat can be (reasonably) altered to fit? Other models?

thnx for any advise.
