im going to the estate of my deceased uncle to appraise all his bench tools and such. tomorrow when i get back (6 hr drive there n back) ill post pictures but i DO know he has a car lift. how much do those usually go for?
A used car lift would not be worth more than scrap price to any one that lives near by, primarily due to the labor involved in taking it apart and moving it. The labor and cost of materials of reinstalling it just about washes with installing a new one.
I had a fire and the insurance apprasier was close on some things and way off on other stuff, tools depends on quality and usage and the local economy. Around here construction tools are a good bargain because of very little building being done and high unemployment.
so basically the only way my uncles daughter (pretty much my sister) could make money off of it is if i took it apart, sold it, and then installed it at wherever i sell it?

I agree with Cobalt, an above ground lift can be taken down, transported, and reassembled fairly easily. I'm sure if you leave it up so prospective buyers can see how it's assembled prior to dis-assembly you shouldn't have a big problem selling it, especially if its a good one........
Where are you at? If you're close I might be able to help you out with the sale of that lift........
Oh, never-mind, I just seen you were from OK..........
What I tried to say about the lift is that you can order a new one and have it delivered to your location fairly cheaply. If you have to take one down and pay to have it shipped any distance, you are not going to save much money buying a used lift. Right now with the economy, there are lots of used lifts available so if you find a potential buyer locally, you may get better than scrap price. Other than that, good luck marketing the lift for any where near the price of a new one.
A co worker bought a 2 post lift a couple years ago used for $450 disassembled.
Don't know about your neck of the woods or now that we are in a depression.

Yep, if it were me anything that can be shipped easy would be put on ebay. The lift, you get what ever you can so YOU don't have to move it! Let me put it this way my brother sold his shop a few years ago with a couple of above ground lifts. About a year later the new owner called him and asked him if he wanted one he could come get it for free, THAT is how much they are worth.
This is the thing, as pointed out, when you can order a brand new one that you KNOW works and will work for years to come and have it delivered to your door, often financed, that is where you are going to get one.
If you are also going to sell the property, it may be a good selling incentive for a new buyer. $400-500 for a used lift seems to be the going price around here, even for the nice 4 post lifts that you can drive the car on. Martin (Brian) has the right idea if you want to be rid of it, throw an ad on Craig's list, the newspaper, etc. Have them disassemble and haul off. If you want to, I have a couple of gearhead buddies in OK that moved from Ca., brothers, P.M. me, I will call them and let them know about your lift. They may also be interested in tools. Both retired but have some nice cars to fix, 37 Chev coupe, 67 Chevelle S.S., 69 Camaro, a few more. I believe they are in Atoka. Dan
Pull the head off and check the valves, probably just little thin metal strips, like the size of a feeler gage blade. If these are dirty been hot bent etc it wont work. good luck
I've never seen a lift that didn't sell for a decent price. I bought my last drive on for $2000 and didn't bat an eye. A 16 foot trailer moved it around 30 miles and I moved it another 20 when I moved my business. Raise it up, move the trailer under it, set it down, unbolt the electrical and poles and roll. 2 poles are a bit more work. There are people wanting these and as long as it's above ground, it'll sell.
One auction I went to, they were selling for retail (idiots... pay new for NEW) Another, they were cheaper, but FAR above scrap.
If it will lift a car, $1000 and up for cheap 2 posts. $2000 and up for 4 posts. Add $2-500 for each decent rolling jack on a 4 poster. Add a good chunk more to these figures for nice looking Bendpak, Rotary, and such.
