I read this article on Wiki http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/T-400_Rebuild_tech and there is a picture, which shows exactly what I need:

I have an early style reaction carrier in my TH400 and now I need a sprag, that fits into that early style carrier. (see picture - the right sprag element)

Please help me find that part. (store - part number...)

I bought rebuild kit for TH400 but there was late style sprag element in it.

Thanks!

the roller clutch and early design sprag for the planetary units in the photo by the original poster here..... are the low sprag / roller clutch. That is NOT the intermediate sprag.. the intermediate sprag is on the direct drum.

I have not seen a new sprag for the early planet design in many years.

Well, that confirms my suspicions.

That's Why I made a photo of the actual parts in my tranny.

Correct me if I'm wrong: Part "A" is a intermediate 34 element sprag and part "B" is the low sprag / roller clutch. Right?

When I bought a rebuild kit for my TH400, there was new part "A", which I currently installed into tranny, but instead of part "B" was included part on next picture, which does not fit into my tranny.

Where should I ask for new part "B" and how can I explain to the shop what exactly I need? Help.....

your part 'B' is a sprag. the next foto is a roller clutch in the Borg Warner package for the later design planet / carrier

As I mentioned , you are not going to find a new sprag type clutch for the planet. Trans parts suppliers have not stock'd them in years. You may find a supplier with a correct size sprag if you look hard enough.

The roller clutch in the carrier has been used in very high horse power applications and worked fine.

Hmm, so what you suggest for me to do? Put old used part back to tranny or something else? Since I'm from Europe, it's very hard for me to find some USA supplier for that sprag.
Maybe someone from the forum can help.... :)

About that roller clutch in the picture: I always thought that the roller clutch is the replacement for the "B" sprag. Does it fits somewhere else into my tranny? Am I missing something?

I bought master rebuild kit for TH400 and everything fits except that roller clutch wich is similar size as "B" sprag, so I tought that it should be replacement for "B" sprag.

The roller clutch in your rebuild kit IS the design replacement for the sprag in the planetary unit... it IS the late design which requires the later design planetary carrier.

You obivously can not use the roller clutch in place of the sprag design. The photo you posted earlier of the 2 designs of the planetary carrier indicate the designs are different and can not inter change the roller clutch into the early sprag design planetary carrier.

If the sprag is in good shape, you may have to re-use it in the planetary carrier.

The roller clutch in your kit does not fit any where else.

:pimp:
