You need to find a reputable place to buy the hides. I have a place that I have found to be reputable and also has good prices. They used to only sell to businesses, but now they have changed that policy. RICH LEATHER
If you don't see what you want at Rich Leather, here are a few tips. Don't buy closeouts, or look on E-bay. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with E-bay, but you need to find a place that specializes in leather, and not a jack of all trades. Do your homework. Find out as much as you can about leather and the different grades that are available. Here's some info on leather: HOW TO BUY LEATHER Spinneybeck sells fabulous leather, but they are very pricey. They also push full grain leather, which is the best there is, but it also is usually more naturally colored, so your color choices are limited. A good grade of Top grain leather will work just fine for you.
When you find a place, don't just order the hides, ask for any literature they have and also samples of the different grades they sell.
thank you guys for the info, researching the links above.
