My Compliments to a bunch of car guys

We had a request from a retirement home in my town to bring out a few cars for the residents to enjoy this afternoon. It was all word of mouth. We had at least 20 guys show up with their rides. The residents came out in wheel chairs, a couple of them in their hospital beds. They were ecstatic about these guys spending a couple of hours with them and sharing their hobby. I was proud to be a car guy today.

A few years ago a friend of mine got involved in one of those events. It was a Model A club he belonged to and they gave rides at a rest home to the ones who could get out. He had his 31 rumble seat roadster and a nice lady who was about 90 rode with him. She spoke very little then said "When I was 17 I lost my virginity in the backseat of a car just like this". Then she paused and said "best night of my life" and spoke no more the rest of the trip.

LOL.... There was an un-restored 32 ford convertible. A wheel chair bound lady motioned me to come over to where she was sitting. We talked for about 10 minutes. Then she pointed out the Ford. She said do you see that car over there? She said "my first date was in a car just like that... and it had a rumble seat." I told her that was probably a little more information than I wanted to know . We both had a good laugh for a couple of minutes.

Wow hp246, thanks for posting this up. What a great idea for local car groups. My wife is a chaplain a one of our local nursing/retirement centers and she already emailed the director to see if this is something they might like our local car folks to do.

And LOVE your story Willowbilly. Brought tears of laughter to my eyes.

Our little club here in town goes to a home every year. They love the old cars.

MSRA in the T.C. goes to a vets home every year and puts on a pig roast. We also go to Boys Town and have one there also.
