bigdog7373 I want to make a shift knob but i dont want wood. And bmw aren't threaded so no one makes one thats affordable. I want to try my luck at making one. Seems like a good project. Just trying to find a good material thats not going to cost a lot.

What did you have in mind using it for? There may be other materials you can use such as UHMW, Delrin, etc. All have excellent wear and friction resistance and are machinable. Any of the composite materials are a little pricey.

oldschool hero Google dixie rubber ,they are in Greenville SC and have it.
I bought some that is 2" thick and 12" X 12" it was $90.00 bucks.

Irelands child A lot of commercial bathroom partitions, at least those made by a company called Bobrick are phenolic (my wife, until she retired was their HR manager - which means that I used to have access to their scrap ). You might find some at a salvage yard. Amazingly expensive stuff new and in big sheets.

Where can i buy a block of phenolic? Is there a similar material that would be easier to find? Im just looking for a 4"x4" block. Any ideas? Thanks
